Safety

Read before your first lesson:

Having a lesson with someone who has no verifications or no feedback:

It is compulsory for you to verify them and meet initially in a public space.

To verify someone you must do the 2 following things:

1. Ensure their ID matches with the name that they have given on iSKILLu.

- Valid ID includes: passport, driving license, birth certificate & medical card.

2. If they have added extra information, for example having a degree or CRB, check that these documents exist and are in date.

Having a lesson with someone new:

Although the chances are is that you are going to meet another excellent and skilled individual, some caution must be maintained when meeting up with a new individual. Thus we highly recommend initially meeting up in a well-lit public place, and taking a friend with you (or at least tell them where you are).

We recommend not entering into any private property unless you have checked that the name of the person you have met matches with that given on iSKILLu. Valid ID includes: passport, driving license, birth certificate and medical card.

General Safety:

1. Ensure someone knows where you are

Send a txt to a close friend / family member to inform them of your whereabouts, situation and expected re-contact time. It’s always a good idea to have someone in the know – even if you’ve met with them before!

2. Feel uncomfortable in a lesson? Leave!

If, for any reason, there is anything that makes you feel uncomfortable or that you don’t want to go ahead or continue with a lesson: leave in a friendly way. You are not obliged to do the lesson and credits can always be refunded through the complaints section.

3. Never leave expensive items / large sums of money out

To limit any risk it is always a good idea to meet a new face with a friend / in public

4. Never provide your personal documents or banking information to others over the internet

e.g. details or photocopies of your passport, driving license or your credit card number.

5. Where to meet

Check out the ‘Local Rooms’ page as an idea of where to meet – these can offer perfect environments to learn & feel comfortable in.

Finally we leave you with a quote from W.B Yeats:

“There are no strangers, only friends you have not met yet”

Reporting a safety issue:

If you’ve been a victim of crime, the first thing to do is to report it to the police. We can’t report a criminal offence to the police on your behalf, but we will always assist the police in their investigations once you’ve reported it.
